Silk care guide

Looking after your silk products

Silk is the ultimate companion for a restful night’s sleep, providing comfort and luxury the moment you lay down. However, like any cherished item, whether it’s a pillowcase or sleep mask, silk requires proper care to maintain its wonderful beauty benefits. Here’s how to keep your Silk Addict products as soft, smooth, and luxurious as the day you first got them.

Why Should You Wash Your Silk?

Hygiene and care go hand in hand with prolonging the life of your silk products. As you sleep, your skin naturally releases oils and sweat that can transfer. Silk, prized for its hypoallergenic and non-absorbent properties, resists much of this buildup unlike other fabrics. Still, washing your silk periodically keeps it at its best, ensuring a pristine surface for your nightly beauty routine. And honestly, who doesn’t love the feel of a freshly washed bedding?

Can You Machine Wash Silk?

While cotton and similar fabrics can withstand the rigors of regular machine washing, silk requires a more delicate approach. At Silk Addict, our premium products are crafted from the finest grade 6A, 22 momme mulberry silk, making them machine washable with the right precautions. To ensure your silk remains pristine, follow these three essential steps when using a washing machine.

Use a Delicate Cycle: Always wash on a delicate cycle and if your machine is prone to catching make sure you place your silk items in a mesh laundry bag for added protection.

Cool Temperatures Only: Set the machine to 30°C (85°F) or colder to preserve silk fibers. Anything more than 30°C

Mild Detergents: Opt for pH-neutral silk-safe detergents to avoid damaging the fabric.

After washing, avoid wringing or twisting, instead gently press out excess water with a clean towel and let it air dry flat in a shaded, ventilated area.

How to Wash Your Silk by Hand

Whilst you are able to machine wash our silk, for best results hand washing is the gold standard for silk care. Follow these steps to keep your Silk Addict sleep mask in peak condition:

Prepare a Gentle Solution: Mix cool water with a silk-safe, pH-neutral detergent. Avoid harsh chemicals, especially bleach, which can degrade silk fibers.

Soak and Swish: Submerge your mask and gently swirl it for a few minutes. Don’t scrub or wring, as silk is delicate.

Rinse Thoroughly: Use cool water to rinse away all detergent, ensuring no residue remains.

Air Dry Flat: Lay your mask flat on a clean, dry towel in a shaded area. Direct sunlight or heat can fade and weaken silk fibers.
